A flexible CMS, built for customization just like our client's product

Background

MOD Pizza, a Seattle-based “fast casual” pizza restaurant founded in 2008, was experiencing an explosion in popularity and rapid growth across the US. They needed a modern consumer-facing website that conveyed their restaurant model’s perks while highlighting their emphasis on customer service, company culture, and innovation. Fresh designers set out to meet an ambitious deadline, leveraging content from MOD’s previous website and marketing efforts. Our team also prioritized bringing their message to life with seamless navigation, information architecture, and modern web technology.

Challenges

  1. Auditing the existing experiencing and providing consultative expertise to help the MOD team prioritize and refine content

  2. Strategically synthesizing core messages about “customization,” employee experience, and national expansion

  3. Equipping MOD content owners to maintain the website with a modular “page builder” approach that was easy to manage on the back end

“Endless ways to MOD”

Over 400 locations and 30 plus toppings to choose from on MOD’s side. An infinite number of approaches to web design and development on ours.

Creating an ROI-generating website and making an Artisan-style pizza are more similar than you might think. MOD faced the challenge of setting themselves apart by choosing which organizational ingredients to highlight on their website. We met the challenge of designing a content management experience built to scale and change in line with MOD’s growth.

Creating the perfect structure

A central component of our UX and visual design process is wireframing and information architecture. Fresh designers on the project took the individual pieces of information provided by MOD’s team and compiled them into a structural whole. Developers brought the structure to life with modern web technology. Our cross-disciplinary team collaborated to create a website worthy of telling MOD’s unique brand story.

While the content is flexible, the structure is built for the long-haul. We spent time investigating MOD’s ideal user journey and then designed the site’s architecture to match.
